For the second year in a row the tour travels to far a faraway locale to kick things off for the 2003 season as it joins forces with the PGA of Australasian Tour. With Nationwide on as the new sponsor for the tour, replacing Buy.Com after an six year run, the list of hopefuls trying to make a name for themselves is a long one.
The Nationwide Tour is the proving ground for the PGA Tour, and it boasts some very impressive graduates that are today household names. David Toms, David Duval, John Daly and Tom Lehman all played stints on the tour and now all have majors titles to their names.
Played at the Kooyonga Golf Club, the event features a $500,000 total purse, with a check for $90,000 going to the winner.
Players will be looking to get out of the gate quick with a win, as they dream of getting the PGA Tour's coveted Battlefield Promotion, where three wins on the Nationwide Tour gets the golfer instant access to the big leagues.
