New Mexico Edges UNLV for Nelson Title

College CentralThe University of New Mexico men's golf team won the 16-team Nelson Invitational in Stanford, Calif. The Lobos shot a final round 284 and finished the tournament with a school record 54-hole total of 830 (277-269-284) on the 6,444 yard, par-69 Stanford golf Course. UNM edged UNLV by five strokes to win their second championship of the season.
Junior Spencer Levin won his second tournament of the year as he shared medalist honors with Steve Tiley of Georgia State. Levin shot a 1-under-par 68 on the final day and finished the invitational with a school record 54-hole score of 198 (65-65-68).
Senior Jay Reynolds also finished in the top-10 in a tie for fourth. Reynolds finished at even-par (68-67-72). Other Lobo results were senior Miguel Griego tied for 16th at 5 over par (73-69-70), while junior Jay Choi (75-68-74) and sophomore Charlie Beljan (71-70-76) both tied for 42nd at 10 over par.
New Mexico returns to the links on November 5, at the rescheduled Carpet Capital Classic hosted by Georgia Tech. Levin will also participate for the United States at the World Amateur Team Championships in Puerto Rico on October 29.
