New Outlook on Cup Captain - Monty

Colin Montgomerie has suggested in The Scotsman newspaper that it's time Europe ended the old-boy network of selected a Ryder Cup captain.
The excellence demonstated by Sam Torrance in his captaincy at the most recent Ryder Cup makes it imperative, Montgomerie said.
'Since Sam has made the role of captain bigger and better than ever, people have decided we just dont want to pass this off to our friends or what have you,' he said.
'This captaincy is now a serious business and it will be good to have the European Tour [players] vote on the issue rather than folk saying You take it this time, Ill take it the next, which is the way its been up until now. Its happened behind closed doors and suddenly theres a new captain.'
Montgomerie is in line for the captaincy. However, he suggested that Bernhard Langer and Nick Faldo should be favored when the Ryder Cup is played in the U..S. (as it is in 2004), and that he and Ian Woosnam be captain when it returns to Europe.
