Located south of St. Augustine, Fla., Ocean Hammock will host its first USGA championship on the Jack Nicklaus course that opened in December 2000. The 2003 championship will be the first Womens Amateur Public Links in Florida and the 16th USGA Championship conducted in the Sunshine State.
The links-style course features six holes overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, with elevated mounds of scrub oak. Native brush called 'hammocks' serves as natural ocean barriers. Other features include lakeside holes and natural dunes.
'Were delighted to welcome the USGA and the competitors to Florida and Palm Coast Golf Resort,' said Brad Schreiber, general manager of the Palm Coast Resort.
'Ocean Hammock will prove to be a challenging test for the best womens amateur players in the world.'
Prior to 2003, the U.S. Womens Amateur Public Links Championship will be played at the Meadows Course of the Sunriver (Ore.) Resort June 18-23.
