Ochoa Wins LPGA Rookie of Year

Lorena Ochoa, the 21-year-old rookie from Guadalajara, Mexico, will officially wrap up the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year Award on Sunday upon completion of the Longs Drugs Challenge, the final full-field event of the season.
Ochoa clinched the award following the John Q. Hammons Hotel Classic on Sept. 7 when she moved 306 points ahead of Young Kim. Even if Kim had won last week's Safeway Classic and then this week's Longs Drugs Challenge, worth 150 points each, she still could not surpass Ochoa.
Ochoa has posted six top-10 finishes this season, including a tie for second at the Michelob Light Open at Kingsmill and second place at the Wegmans Rochester LPGA. She has earned more than $730,000 this year and is currently ranked eighth on the ADT Official Money List.
Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year points are awarded at all full-field domestic events and doubled at the LPGA's four major championships. The 2002 Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year will receive the Louise Suggs Trophy, which is named in honor of the LPGA Tour Hall of Famer and founder.
