Olazabal to Play Full-Time on American Soil

Spain's Jose Maria Olazabal has joined several other top players from Europe in making the decision to play full-time on the PGA Tour of the United States.
Olazabal, winner of the 1994 and '99 Masters Tournament, made the statements at this week's Buick Invitational, and now joins the likes of Sergio Garcia, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Jesper Parnevik and Nick Faldo as excellent golfers from Europe who have elected to play in the U.S.
As have all these players, however, the 35-year-old makes the choice at the expense of possibly not competing in future Ryder Cup events. Since points required to make the European team are generated from European Tour events, Olazabal may find himself without enough to play on the team.
He has stated that he will accept this fact, however, and expects to play in the neighborhood of 11 European events in 2001, and between 15 to 18 tournaments in America.
