Osborn Martin SGAs Ams of the Month

University of Alabama/Birminghams Garrett Osborn and Oklahoma States Pablo Martin have been selected as the Southern Golf Associations National Amateurs of the Month for October. Voting by the national selection panel was split equally between Osborn and Martin, who both scored impressive individual victories in collegiate events during the month, thus creating the unprecedented dual award.
Osborn, a UAB junior from Birmingham, ran away with medalist honors in the Jerry Pate National Invitational, his 16-under-par total of 197 outpacing the field by nine strokes. The tournament featured such college golf powers as Georgia Tech, Georgia, Clemson, Arizona and BYU. The victory boosted Osborn to No. 3 in the national Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
Martin, an Oklahoma State sophomore from Spain, won the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate in Orlando, posting a 4-under total of 212. Martin won medalist honors by two shots over a field that included No. 1-ranked amateur Brian Harman and the teams of several college powers. Martin highlighted his victory on Isleworths 590-yard, par-five 17th by hitting a 4-iron second shot to within one inch of a double eagle.
