He leads Trevor Dodds (65) by one shot and David Kirkpatrick (66) by two. Younger brother Brenden Pappas is three back, as is defending champion Ryuji Imada.
Playing the back-nine first at the TPC at Virginia Beach, Pappas was two-under through his first nine holes, but then went on a tear over his final nine, as he recorded five birdies and an eagle at No. 8, with just one bogey to offset the frenzy.
The round of 64 was his low score of the season and consisted of just 24 putts.
Pappas is certainly playing some solid golf on tour this year. In six events, he has yet to miss a cut and won the Buy.Com Monterrey Open in mid-March. In addition to his victory, he has recorded an additional two top-10 finishes.
Likewise, younger brother Brenden is also performing at a good clip this year. In that same Monterrey Open in which his older brother won, Brenden finished in joint-fourth. Two weeks ago, he ended in outright second at the Buy.Com Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs.
