Pebble Beach Voted as Nations Top Course

Golf Digest has voted Pebble Beach Golf Links as the nations best golf course. It marks the first time since the magazine began numeric rankings of Americas top courses in 1985 that New Jerseys Pine Valley wasnt listed in first place.
Pine Valley had held the top spot for 16 years, but a new par-3 fifth hole designed by Jack Nicklaus and a revision in the surveys scoring system helped boost the seaside course on the Monterey Peninsula to the head of the ranking.
Pine Valley now holds the second position, while Augusta National is ranked third. The entire list is available in the magazines May issue.
Pebble Beach is a public course, though fees run upwards of $375. It has hosted four U.S. Open Championships, including Tiger Woods record-shattering 15-stroke victory last year.
Golf Digests course evaluation panel is comprised of more than 800 men and women from every state, professional or low-handicap amateurs who play the course at their own expense and judge them on shot value, resistance to scoring, playability, memorability, aesthetics and conditions.
Bonus points are awarded for walkability and tradition. The poll comes out every two years.
