PGA Tour Names Calcavecchia Player of the Month


The PGA Tour named Mark Calcavecchia 2001's first player of the month on Tuesday. Calcavecchia won January's Phoenix Open, setting or tying seven scoring records in the process.
Calc's 256 total broke Mike Souchak's scoring record of 257 set at the 1955 Texas Open. He also tied John Huston's 28-under-par scoring record set at the 1998 Hawaiian Open.
He also set the record for lowest consecutive 36 holes (124) and more birdies in 72 holes (32). The records he equaled were low opening 36 hole total (125), low consecutive 54 hole total and low opening 54 hole total (189).
