PGA Tour Releases 2002 Schedule

PGA Tour (75x100)The PGA Tour released its official 2002 schedule of events on Friday.
 
The slate includes 49 official tournaments, opening with the Mercedes Championship in Kapalua (Dec. 31 through Jan. 6), and concluding with the Tour Championship (Oct. 28 through Nov. 3) at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Ga.
 
In between will be the traditional four majors, with the U.S. Open being held at Bethpage State Park, the British Open at Muirfield, and the PGA Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club.

Also included are four World Golf Championships.
 
The Accenture Match Play Championship returns to the La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, Calif., while the NEC Invitational travels from Firestone Country Club to Sahalee Country Club, site of the 98 PGA Championship.
 
The American Express Championship will move from Bellerive in St. Louis to Mount Juliet Estate, a Jack Nicklaus-designed course in Ireland.
 
The Presidents Cup will also be in its fifth edition.
 
In 2000, the Cup was played at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia, but will move overseas in 2002 to the Fancourt Hotel and Country Club Estate in George, South Africa.
