Players Hope Its Time to Shine

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- There comes a time for each and every one of us when we simply can not and will not believe the so-called facts presented before us.
PGA Tour players may have finally reached that point.
Adam Scott
Adam Scott is trying to become the first player to win back-to-back Players Championship titles.
The weather forecast for this weeks Players Championship calls for scattered thunderstorms on Monday and Tuesday. But from there on out, there is no more than a 20 percent chance of rain each day. Temperatures should also be in the comfortable range of the upper-60 to the mid-70s.
So if you believe Mr. Weatherman, then The Players should start and finish on time ' with no delays or suspensions of play in between.
The 144 or so players in the field wont be holding their collective breath.
Mother Nature has been present at more events this season than Vijay Singh.
It started, appropriately enough, at the season-opening Mercedes Championships, where rain forced a four-hour delay in the final round. Fog delays forced the third and fourth rounds to both be contested on Sunday at the Buick Invitational. The first round of the FBR Open was suspended by high wind. The Nissan Open was reduced to 36 holes due to a deluge; Day 1 of the WGC-Match Play was canceled for the same reason.
It rained early in the second round at Doral; though, play was never suspended. And then last week at Bay Hill, rain canceled play just four hours into the opening round.
It's rained at every event I've played, Woods said at Bay Hill. As soon as I quit playing the tour, it won't rain.
One way or another, they will complete 72 holes this week ' whether it concludes Sunday night or Tuesday morning, because this is a big one.
This is the major tournament that isnt really a major tournament ' the fifth of four annual major championships.
The Players Championship annually comprises the one of the best ' if not the best ' field of the year.
The top 50 on the Official World Golf Ranking are eligible; and unlike at other tour stops, none of them skip the Players unless under extreme circumstances.
Its now Adam Scotts turn to try and become the first player in the tournaments 31-year history to win back-to-back titles. He accomplished the front end of that feat by making a tenuous bogey on the final hole for a one-shot victory over Padraig Harrington. It was Scotts first Players victory and Harringtons second straight runner-up finish in the event.
Harrington, however, may be more confident in his chances of winning this week than Scott. He notched his maiden PGA Tour title in his last start, when he beat Singh and Joe Ogilvie in a playoff at The Honda Classic.
This marks the 25th anniversary of the Stadium Course at the TPC at Sawgrass. Its the 24th straight year that it has hosted the tours crown jewel.
The purse will be at least what it was last year, when it was a tour record $8 million. That means the winner will receive at least $1.44 million.
