Players Prep for Second Straight California Event

The Buy.Com Tour stays in California for a second consecutive week, as players move to the Bayonet Golf Club in Seaside and the $450,000 Monterrey Peninsula Classic.
As the tour winds down its 2001 season, nearly every member of the top-20 on the money list will be present for this event. After this week, just three more tournaments remain, wrapping up with the season-ending Tour Championship.
As is the case every year, the top-15 on the money list will be granted playing privileges on the 2002 PGA Tour.
Therefore, it is by no mistake that names like Todd Barranger (No. 14), Paul Claxton (No. 15), Ryuji Imada (No. 16) and Steve Haskins (No. 17) are all scheduled to compete.
A good week for any one of these players can make their year-long journey that much closer to becoming realized. Then again, a missed cut this week in Seaside will be met with extreme disappointment.
Those golfers will team up with others like Australian Rod Pampling (No 3.), Jonathan Byrd (No. 5) and Pat Bates (No. 12), all striving for the first-place prize of $81,000.
Also in attendance this week will be last weeks champion D.A. Points.
Points beat Pampling in a playoff at the Inland Empire Open, and moved his money ranking from No. 128 to No. 38.
The Bayonet Golf Club is a par-72 layout measuring 7,094 yards.
