Players Scorch Mission Dorado Course

RSS

Chad Campbell eagled both par-5s on the back nine of Mission Dorado Thursday to shoot a 64 and take the outright lead of the Buy.Com Permain Basin Open.

However, at 8-under-par, he has 29 players within just three shots of his pace.

Five players shot 65, 14 shot 66 and 10 shot 67 Thursday at Mission Dorado in one of the lowest scoring days the Buy.Com Tour has seen all year.

Campbells day was going along nicely enough, with three birdies over the front nine, but was then punctuated when the winner of this years Richmond Open eagled the par-5 11th and then followed it up with another eagle at the par-5 15th.

A final birdie at the finishing 18th gave him 64 and a one stroke lead.

At one stroke off the pace was Australian Rod Pampling, whose last round 65 came just two weeks ago, on the final day of the Buy.Com Omaha Classic.

On that particular day, his 65 was just one stroke shy of preventing Heath Slocum a third win for the year and gaining access to the PGA Tour.

On Thursday, it came by way of three birdies over his final three holes.

One other player who ended with a fine 66 at Mission Dorado was Casey Martin.

Martins round might have been the best of them all, as he racked in nine birdies on the day. However, three untimely bogies offset his score and left him in a tie with 12 others.
