Players Sending Out an SOS at SAS

The SAS Championship is the first of five remaining events before the Senior Tour Championship.
The top 31 on the money list after the SBC Championship will qualify for the season finale. That leaves little time for those jockeying for inside position.
Nos. 32 through 55 on the money list will be competing at the Prestonwood Country Club in Cary N.C., all trying to jump inside the monetary divider. This is the tours second straight stop in the Tar Heel State. Bruce Fleisher won wire-to-wire last week in the 15th and final RJR Championship in Clemmons.
This is also the second year of this event. Bruce Lietzke defeated Gary McCord and Allen Doyle in the inaugural SAS Championship a year ago.
Prestonwood will host the tournament through 2003. It will then move to the TPC at Wakefield Plantation in Raleigh.
The purse is $1.7 million, with $255,000 going to the winner.
