Pressel Advances in Girls Junior Amateur

Medalist Christina Kim, 17, of San Jose, Calif., won two matches to advance to the third round of match play at the 2001 U.S. Girls Junior Championship in Mission Hills, Kan.
Kim defeated Devan Andersen, 17, of Mexico, a personal friend, 2-up in the second round after a 5-and-3 victory over Elizabeth Dotson, 15, of White Bluff, Tenn., in the morning at the Indian Hills Country Club.
Kim will face Elizabeth Janangelo, 17, of West Hartford, Conn., who defeated Kelly Husted, 17, of Sarasota, Fla., 2-up in the second round.

Three players, including Janangelo, duplicated their advance to the third round of last year. The others are Sukjin Lee, 14, of Toms River, N.J., and Mallory Code, 16, of Tampa, Fla.
Also advancing were third-seeded Nicole Perrot, 17, of Chile and Morgan Pressel, 13, of Boca Raton, Fla., the youngest remaining player in the field, who qualified for the U.S. Womens Open earlier this summer.
Second-seeded Aree Wongluekiet, 15, of Bradenton, Fla., who won the 1999 Championship, was defeated in 20 holes in the first round by Aimee Cho, 17, of Orlando, Fla. She was then defeated 4 and 3 by Pressel in the second round.

The third and quarterfinal rounds of match play will be played Thursday. The semifinals are scheduled for Friday morning, matches at 8:30 and 8:45 a.m. CDT, and the championship final is at 9 a.m. Saturday.
