In the PGA Tours final tune-up before the British Open, Loren Roberts will defend the title he won a year ago at Brown Deer Park Golf Course in Milwaukee, Wis.
Roberts set a 72-hole tournament scoring record en route to winning the GMO for the second time. The 1996 champ shot rounds of 65-66-63-66 to finish the event at 24-under-par 260, eight shots clear of runner-up Franklin Langham.
This is a huge victory for me, at 45 years old, playing against golfers in their 20s and 30s, Roberts said following his win.
The now-46-year-old Roberts will do battle against the likes of Chris DiMarco, 1999 champion Carlos Franco, 98 winner Jeff Sluman, 97 champ Scott Hoch, Charles Howell III, and this years Byron Nelson winner Robert Damron.
Hoch is coming off his second win of the season, a thrilling victory over Davis Love III in the Advil Western Open.
This is the 34th playing of the event. Dave Stockton won the inaugural GMO in 1968. This years purse is $3.1 million, with $558,000 going to the winner.
