Rose had a breakout season in 2002, winning four events on three different continents. Two of his victories came on the European Tour at the Dunhill Championship and the British Masters. One of the other victories came on South African's Sunshine Tour at the Nashua Masters, the other on the Japanese Tour in The Crowns tournament.
'This is a wonderful thrill,' said Rose, who received the award from Sergio Garcia, winner of the award in 2001.
Rose beat out Adam Scott of Australia and American Charles Howell III. Scott won twice on The European Tour at the Qatar Masters and the Scottish PGA Championship while Howell won the Michelob Championship on the PGA Tour.
Rose also finished ninth on the European money list, his highest finish since turning pro in 1998.
'My professional career got off to a bit of a rollercoaster start, but I have always appreciated the support from everyone to help me get where I am,' Rose added.
