Seaside Course Selected for 2002 PGA Cup


PGA of America officials have announced that the Sea Island Golf Club in Sea Island, Ga. has been selected as the site of the 21st PGA Cup Matches.
The matches, which pit 10 PGA professionals from America against 10 PGA professionals from Great Britian-Ireland will be played Sept. 20-22. The format is very similar to that of the Ryder Cup.
Specifically, the resorts Seaside Course will see play in September. A Tom Fazio-blended layout, the front side of Seaside was designed in 1929, while the back nine was constructed in 1999.
The PGA Cup was first played in 1973 at Pinehurst Country Club in North Carolina. The United States owns a 13-4-3 record against GB&I, and are the defending champions after winning 13 to 12 in 2000.
