Season Nearly Complete Entering Louisiana

RSS

The Buy.Com Tour moves into Louisiana this week for its second-to-last event for 2001, the Shreveport Classic.

With the season on the brink of completion, a feverish race is underway for the top-15 spots on the money list, as those fortunate individuals will gain playing status on next years lucrative PGA Tour.

Therefore, all will be traveling to Louisiana this week. In fact, every member of the top-20 on the current money list is scheduled to be in the field.

Those players in the most crucial positions are Richard Zokol (No. 13), Michael Long (No. 14), Todd Barranger (No. 15), Paul Claxton (No. 16) and Steve Haskins (No. 17).

With only about $14,000 separating the No. 13 from the No. 17 spot, portions of this weeks total purse of $425,000 will be highly sought.

Bo Van Pelt is a good example of how a good finish late in the season can help your chances for next year.

Although he did not win last week at the Gila River Classic, he finished in a tie for second and moved from No. 23 to No. 10 on the list.

Now, he is in prime position with just two tournaments left.

For last weeks winner Ben Crane, his winnings ascended him from 79th to 26th in earnings, and he will need another good finish should he hope to graduate to the PGA Tour.

After this week, the tour moves to Alabama for the $600,000 season-ending Tour Championship. The 15-top finishers will be determined following this event.
