Semifinals Set in Sweltering Kansas

USGANicole Perrot is looking to notch two big wins in a row this week, as the youngster from Chile beat Lindsey Wright and Malinda Johnson Thursday to advance to the semifinals of the U.S. Womens Amateur Championship at Flint Hills Golf Club.
Just last week, Perrot was victorious at the U.S. Girls Junior Championship.
Now, she will square off against Kim Joo-mi of Korea, with the winner advancing into the final match.
In the other semifinal match, Meredith Duncan will play Emily Bastel of Upper Sandusky, Oh.
Duncan beat Lisa Ferrero 2-up in the morning and then disposed of Kelli Kamimura 3-and-2 in the scorching Kansas heat, which hovered into triple-digit territory.
There was some breeze this morning, but this afternoon it was just hot, said Duncan.
While Duncan may be the favorite in the match, Bastel might have the hot hand, as she beat two of the best women amateur players in the game Thursday.
First, she handed 52-year-old Carol Semple Thompson a 3-and-2 loss, and then she edged Hillary Homeyer 2-and-1 to complete the upset.
I havent made too many mistakes that got me into trouble, claimed Bastel, who is in her senior year at Michigan State. I have some good saving putts ' made some birdies at the right time ' but just being consistent overall.
