Slocum is at 14-under through two rounds in Concord, Ohio. He shares first place with Ryuji Imada, who fired a 64.
Former PGA Tour stalwart Jim Benepe is in third place at 12-under following a 66.
Casey Martin, who started the day four shots off the lead, posted a disappointing 3-over-par 75 to fall to 1-under for the tournament. He missed the cut.
Starting on the back nine, Slocum made the turn on the Devlin Course at Quail Hollow Resort in 31. He dropped a shot with a bogey at the par-5 1st, but recovered with a pair of birdies on the two other front-nine par-5s.
Imada parred his first four holes before catching fire with three straight birdies starting at the par-5 5th.
The 24-year-old bogeyed the par-4 9th, only to hole a 4-wood from 250 yards on the par-5 10th for a double eagle.
'I couldn't really see it but the lady behind the green was jumping up and down so I figured it was pretty good,' Imada said.
He didnt stop there.
The former All-American at the University of Georgia birdied the 11th, 12th, 13th and 15th holes to move to 15-under-par. However, a bogey at the par-3 16th halted his positive movement.
'It's been a weird year. I had a hole-in-one earlier in Raliegh,' he said. 'It's been weird because I was in the media room at the beginning of the year and I was talking to Joe (Chemycz, Media Official) and he had the Tour media guide out and it shows all the holes-in-one and double eagles from years past and I said, 'Man, I never get that kind of break.'
'Two weeks later I get a hole-in-one and now I get a double eagle.'
