Annika Srenstam will temporarily escape the glare of the North American golf world and play in Japan as a tune up for her much-anticipated debut competing against male players this summer on the PGA Tour.

Srenstam accepted an invitation to play in the $500,000 Nichirei Cup World Ladies tournament, held May 8-11 at the Tokyo Yomiuri Country Club, organizers said Wednesday.

She'll return to the U.S. in time to place the Bank of America Colonial tournament, the PGA Tour event which begins May 22. Last month Srenstam accepted an invitation to play the event after weighing her options between several PGA TOUR tournament offers. She'll become the first woman in 58 years to compete on the tour.

The 32-year-old Srenstam has won 42 LPGA Tour events in her career. She was the leading money winner on the tour last season with earnings that topped $2.8 million.
