Stadler Goes for Third Straight Win

Craig Stadler goes for the hat trick Friday when he tees it up at the SAS Championship near Raleigh, N.C. He has won the last two events in which hes played and hopes to make it three in a row this week at Prestonwood Country Club.
Stadler won the JELD-WEN Tradition to start the streak, then added the First Tee Open at Pebble Beach the next week. He sat out the Kroger Classic last week, but hopes to add the SAS for his fifth win of the 2004 season.
Monday he started out on the right foot when he and son Kevin paired to defeat a couple of LPGA standouts, Annika Sorenstam and Grace Park, in a nine-hole exhibition at Boise, Idaho. Stadler made six birdies.
'I surely didn't expect to come out and make six birdies,' Stadler said.
But now hes playing for real money as opposed to charity. And he resumes his battle with Hale Irwin, who is also entered into the SAS, for the money title..
Stadlers lead has grown to more than $250,000 over No. 2 Irwin. And Stadler has played in two fewer tournaments.
Stadler has played in 17 events, less than anyone in the top 10. By contrast, Bruce Fleisher ' No. 5 on the money list this week ' has played in 23.
