Sun Shines in Cape Town for Vodacom Players Championship

RSS

The $2-million man heads a competitive field at this week's Sunshine Tour stop, the fourth-annual Vodacom Players Championship.

Ernie Els, fresh off his victory at the lucrative Nedbank Challenge in Sun City, will once again tee it up in his homeland at the Royal Cape Golf Club in Cape Town, South Africa.

Els is joined by Zimbabwean Nick Price, defending champion Nic Henning, Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke, David Frost, former PGA Tour winner Trevor Dodds, and Tim Clark, who won on this year's Buy.Com Tour.

Also in attendance are a pair of recent Q-School graduates - Desvonde Botes and Andrew McLardy. Botes is the reigning European Q-School medallist, while McLardy just earned his 2001 PGA Tour card.

McLardy finished tied for 5th at the six-day PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament in La Quinta, Calif., which ended on Monday.

Price is making his first start in this event since being forced to withdraw due to severe sinusitis in 1998. The inaugural champion, Mark McNulty, is not in attendance. McNulty and Tony Johnstone are representing Zimbabwe in the WGC-EMC World Cup of Golf in Argentina.
