Thorpe to Defend in California


The Senior PGA Tour travels back to the mainland this week for the $1.3 million TransAmerica.
Jim Thorpe enters as the defending champion, as the Heathrow, Fla. resident shot a final round 65 last year to finish three strokes better than Bruce Fleisher.
The win marked his first ever on the 50-and-over circuit, and since, he has won three additional times, including two this season at the Kroger Senior Classic and the Allianz Championship.
Thorpe goes up against a host of the tours best players this week at the Silverado Resort in Napa, Calif.
Last weeks winner in Hawaii, Hale Irwin is set to play. The all-time leader in wins on the Senior Tour is seeking his fourth of this year alone.
Also in the field are Fleisher, Allen Doyle, Ray Floyd, Bobby Wadkins and Larry Nelson.
So too are golf legends Arnold Palmer and Gary Player.
The Silverado Resort is a par-72 which will play at 6,640 yards this week. The TransAmerica is in its 13th season. Lee Trevino is the only player ever to have won on more than one occasion ' he titled in 90 and 95.
Senior Tour Field, Tee Times and Statistics
