Thorpe Good As Gold

Jim Thorpe went 68 starts without a victory on the Senior PGA Tour before winning two straight in 2000, the second of which came at the Gold Rush Classic, this weeks stop on the 50-and-over circuit.
Thorpe fired a course record 10-under-par 62 Saturday and never looked back en route to his victory at the Serrano Country Club in El Dorado Hills, Calif.
Thorpe finished with a total of 21-under 195, a new tournament record by four shots.
Once again, Thorpe is riding a hot streak. The 52-year-old has won two of the last three Senior tournaments, including the Kroger Senior Classic and Allianz Championship in back-to-back weeks.
He didnt win last weeks SAS Championship, but did close in 64.
The total purse for the event has increased to $1.3 million ($200,000 more than that of a year ago). The winner will collect $195,000.
