Joe Inman birdied his final hole on Saturday to grab a two-shot lead heading into the final round of the SBC Senior Classic.
Inman carded a second-round 68 to move to 9-under-par for the tournament, a couple of strokes clear of Mike McCullough. McCullough matched Inman's 68 at the Wilshire Country Club in Los Angeles, Calif.
Larry Nelson, in search of his seventh win of the season, is three off the lead after firing a 7-under-par 64 in the second round. Nelson stands at 6-under-par, tied with Jim Thorpe and Stewart Ginn.
Inman is vying for his first victory of the year, but his third straight win at this event. If he prevails on Sunday, Inman will become the fifth man in Senior PGA Tour history to accomplish that feat.
In the tournament-within-a-tournament, Gary McCord followed up an opening 67 with a Saturday 75. McCord, who needs to make up $8,000 over Graham Marsh to have a chance to defend his title at next week's IR Senior Tour Championship, is now tied for 43rd. Marsh is tied for 27th after shooting a 2-under-par 69.
