Tjaart (pronounced Chart) may have to update his website come Sunday. The second-year player is tied for the lead midway through the Buy.Com Richmond Open.
Van der Walt shot a 5-under-par 66 at the Stonehenge Golf & Country Club to tie Steve Gotsche for the 36-hole lead at 10-under. The duo is one-shot clear of 1993 Shell Houston Open winner Jim McGovern (67), overnight leader Mark Wurtz (68) and Mike Heinen (66).
Gotsche, a two-time tour winner in 1999, fired a 7-under-par 64. His round included seven birdies and no bogeys.
After finishing in the 15th-and-final qualifying spot in 1999, Gotsche played the PGA Tour fulltime in 2000. He finished the year 173rd in earnings.
Van der Walt ended his rookie campaign on the Buy.Com Tour in 2000 37th on the money list. His best showing of the season was a runner-up finish in the Greater Cleveland Open.
