Tour Heads to South Carolina


The Buy.Com Tour heads to Greenville, S.C., this week for the second edition of the BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs.
Contested at the gorgeous Cliffs Valley Course, $525,000 is on the line for a strong field, with just under $95,000 to go to the eventual winner. Jonathan Byrd took last years inaugural edition, when the developmental tour rookie fired two consecutive rounds of 66 over the weekend to win by one stroke over Brenden Pappas.
Byrd wont be around this year, however. The 24-year-old won enough money over the course of the season to graduate to the PGA Tour, and this week, he will by playing the Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic in North Carolina.
Nevertheless, a bunch of the tours best will tee it up at The Cliffs.
Germanys Alex Cjeka is set to compete in America, as are former PGA Tour standouts Keith Clearwater, Robert Gamez, Chip Beck and Tommy Tolles. They will play against such other emerging stars as Hunter Haas and Ryuiji Imada. In addition, Steve Alker (winner of this years Louisiana Open) will be in the field.
The Buy.Com Tour will then move north the following week to the TPC of Virginia Beach for the Virginia Beach Open.
