The event, in its second year, is co-sanctioned by both the PGA Tour and the Australasian Tour and has a purse of $500,000 with $90,000 going to the winner.
Joe Ogilvie, fresh off his win at the season-opening Jacob's Creek Open Championship in Sydney, will be hoping to make it two in a row and put himself on the brink of automatic entry onto the PGA Tour. Three wins in a season earns a golfer the PGA Tour's Battlefield Promotion.
The field is split, with half the players being members of the Nationwide Tour and half belonging to the PGA Australasian Tour.
This week is a very important one for Australasian Tour players as well, in that it is the last event before the line is drawn for earning exemptions into their 2003 International season.
Following this week, the Nationwide Tour will move back to the U.S. with play picking up again in early April at the Louisiana Open.
