Williams, a Tulsa, Okla.-based corporation, has served as title sponsor of the event since the events inception in 2001. Williams will be assuming a supporting sponsorship position in 2003. The event will now be under the sole management of Octagon, the sports and entertainment company that partnered with Williams during Williams tenure as title sponsor.
We very much enjoyed our partnership with Williams during the last few years, said LPGA commissioner Ty M. Votaw. We praise Williams for bringing the LPGA back to Oklahoma and to Tulsa and for establishing one of the strongest events on our schedule. The players have enjoyed competing here and the fans and the corporate community have been wonderfully supportive. The LPGA looks forward to returning to Tulsa Country Club in September for another first-class event.
The Tulsa Championship benefits local charities and features 144 of the world's best women golfers competing for $1 million in prize money. The total economic impact generated for the city of Tulsa is estimated at more than $6 million.
