Two Clubs Take Buick Scramble Titles


ORLANDO, Fla. -- Apache Stronghold Golf Club in San Carlos, Ariz., won the Gross Division, and Brown Deer Golf Club in Coralville, Iowa captured the Net Division in the 20th annual Buick Scramble.
A total of 262 five-person teams (four amateurs and one PGA club professional) competed over six Orlando area golf courses. The four-day modified scramble competition was the culmination of a year-long team odyssey through local and sectional qualifying.
Representing Apache Stronghold, Frank Sosinski, James Sosinksi, J.R. Revling, Paul Waddell and Dave Kluver combined to shoot 61-under-par 227 over four rounds to better Eagle Mountain Golf Club in Bringham City, Utah by two strokes in the Gross Division.
Sean McCarty, Matt White, Craig Wagner, Mike Miller and Ryder Houch of Brown Deer combined to shoot 72-under-par 216 to defeat Twin Birch Golf Club of Coralville, Iowa by five strokes in the Net Division.
They led wire-to-wire.
Kluver and McCarty, the two team professionals, each received $30,000. The amateurs each got $500 gift certificates. All winners earned a trophy, which was presented to them by Buick spokesperson Tiger Woods.
The Buick Scramble, which is held in conjunction with the PGA of America, is the largest amateur golf tournament with approximately 100,000 participants each year.
