US Open to Air in Prime Time

2008 U.S. OpenThis year's U.S. Open will have prime-time coverage over the final two rounds. NBC Sports will take advantage of the West Coast location for the season's second major and allow viewers in the Eastern and Central time zones some night-time golf coverage.
With the event taking place at Torrey Pines outside of San Diego, Calif., the third round will conclude at 10 p.m. ET. The final round is scheduled to end at 9 p.m. ET.
Three of the next five U.S. Opens will take place on the West Coast, which means if this year's edition is a TV ratings success, golf fans may be in for more prime-time golf.
Not everyone, however, is welcoming the change. European journalists will now face a difficult, if not impossible task in trying to wrap up the weekend play to meet their paper's deadline.
GOLF CHANNEL aired the first two season-opening PGA TOUR events from Hawaii in prime time on the East Coast. ABC Sports also used to showcase their annual 'Battles at ...' featuring Tiger Woods, but due to constant ratings drops canceled the event.
