RSS

USGAUSGA championships will visit 11 states and make return stops at seven different courses in the upcoming 2002 season.

The year officially begins in June, as the 102nd edition of the U.S. Open commences at Bethpage State Parks Black Course in Farmington, N.Y. This years event will mark the first time ever that a golf course owned by the public (State of New York) will host the Open.

At 7,214 yards, Bethpage will also prove the longest track in Open history. In addition, play will begin on both the first and 10th tees during the first two rounds, marking yet another first for the championship.

The 02 U.S. Women's Open will be a bit more conventional, as Prarie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan., will play host to its seventh USGA championship in early July. Karrie Webb is looking to win her third consecutive title.

Elsewhere, Bruce Fleisher will defend his U.S. Senior Open at Caves Valley Golf Club in Baltimore, Md., in late June. Caves Valley previously hosted the 95 U.S. Mid-Amateur.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Amateur is scheduled to visit the classic layout of Oakland Hills in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. USGA championships are no stranger to this venue, as six times it has hosted the U.S. Open, and twice the U.S. Senior Open.

In all, the USGA will conduct 16 official events around the world in 2002, 13 of which are national championships.
