Weather Further Dampens Ticket Sales in New Zealand

While Australians are battling brush fires, Kiwis are dealing with heavy rains. The torrential downpours are having a negative effect on the upcoming New Zealand Open, scheduled Jan. 10-13 at The Paraparaumu Beach Golf Course near Wellington.
The course has been hit by two-and-a-half times the average December rainfall over the past two weeks. Said a spokesperson from the New Zealand weather bureau, Its been absolutely terrible.
The weather will only dampen ticket sales, which were already slow, despite the presence of world No. 1 Tiger Woods.
Promoter Open 2002 Ltd has dished out $2 million ' more than four times the total purse of the tournament ' to lure Woods to the event. Officials declined to release the exact number of spectators needed for the risky venture to break even.
