Weekend Ratings Good Despite Tiger


Although Tiger Woods wasnt much of a factor over the weekend at last weeks U.S. Open, television ratings did not suffer too much.
As released by Nielsen Media Research on Tuesday, NBCs weekend coverage from Southern Hills drew a national rating of 6.2 with a 17 percent share.
Since 1987, the rating ranks as the third highest ever in United States Open history. The all-time highest ratings came at last years Woods-victory from Pebble Beach, which garnished a 6.7 rating with an 18 percent share. The second highest occurred during Scott Simpsons win in 1987 ' a 6.5 rating with a 19 percent share.
Each rating point represents 1,080,000 households, or 1 percent of the nations 100.8 million homes with televisions.
Mondays deciding playoff between Retief Goosen and Mark Brooks drew a rating of 4.0 with a 12 percent share.
