Weir finished sixth on the 2000 PGA Tour money list with over $2.5 million and won the season-ending WGC - American Express Invitational. Weir also had an impressive showing at the Presidents Cup where he made his first appearance for the International squad.
Weir becomes the first golfer to win the award since Sandy Somerville in 1932. Somerville won the U.S. Amateur that year, the first time a foreigner had won the title.
