Welcome to the Bates Motel

RSS

Pat Bates is trying the shed the label of a lifer on the Buy.Com Tour. The soon-to-be 32-year-old is in his sixth consecutive season on the developmental tour. He did spend one year on the PGA Tour; that was in 1995, when he finished 206th on the money list.

This week, Bates is in his comfort zone at the Siouxland Open; an event he captured in 1994 en route to earning his PGA Tour card.

Now, he wants a repeat performance.

Bates, whose stepfather is the Senior PGA Tours Doug Tewell, shot a 2-under-par 70 to finish the third round at 13-under. Hes one shot ahead of Joe Daley, who shot 69.

Overnight leader Tjaart van der Waalt shot 4-over-par 76 to fall five off the pace at 8-under.

Bates made his way to 14-under through 12 holes Saturday, but finished bogey-birdie-bogey-birdie-bogey.
