Wie to Play on Canadian Tour

Michelle Wie, 13, will become the third female this year to compete in a mens professional event when she tees it up in the Canadian Tours Bay Mills Open, Aug. 21-24 in Brimley, Mich.
 
This is the first of two mens events Wie has accepted invitations in which to play. The six-foot eighth-grader from Honolulu is also scheduled to compete in the Nationwide Tours Boise Open, Sept. 18-21.
 
Annika Sorenstam became the first woman in 58 years to compete on the PGA Tour when she missed the cut in the Bank of America Colonial in May. Club professional Suzy Whaley qualified to play in the Greater Hartford Open, July 24-27.
 
Wie tried to Monday qualify in Januarys Sony Open and shot 1-over 73 from the back tees. She tied for 47th place, beating more than 40 players.
 
Wie tied for ninth in this years Kraft Nabisco Championship on the LPGA Tour. She shot 6-under 66 in the third round to earn a spot in the final group before finishing with a 72. She also tied for 33rd at the Chick-fil-A Charity Championship in April.
