Wind Batters Players at Tour Championship

A 7,656-yard course and heavy winds; thats what players were forced to endure in the second round of the Buy.Com Tour Championship.
Playing the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trails Senator Course ' the longest layout ever in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event ' only one player in the elite 53-man field managed to break par on Friday.
As a result, only three players are in red numbers entering the final two rounds of the seasons biggest event.
Chad Campbell, Pat Bates and Rod Pampling are tied for the lead in Prattville, Ala. The trio stands at 1-under-par 143. Campbell and Bates each shot 72 in the second round, while Pampling shot 74.
All three have already secured their 2002 PGA Tour cards. Campbell is No.1 on the money list, while Pampling and Bates are Nos. 3 and 5, respectively.
Overnight leader Don Reese followed an opening 68 with a 9-over 81. The 47-year-old is now six off the pace at 5-over.
At 55th on the money list, he needs to win the $108,000 first-place prize in order to finish inside the top 15.
Brian Kamm shot the low round of the day, a 1-under 71. Hes tied with Bo Van Pelt (73) for fourth place at 1-over.
Thanks to a pair of solid rounds, Campbell has all but wrapped up Player of the Year honors; especially since his chief rival, Heath Slocum (No. 2 on the money list), has struggled, posting rounds of 76-78.
With a victory this week, Campbell would finish the year with $473,752, a new single-season tour record; his four wins would tie the record set by Sean Murphy in 1993.
