Wind Hampers Play in Portugal Pettersson Holding Lead

Carl Pettersson of Sweden moved six shots ahead of the field at 8-under-par Friday before strong winds forced the suspension of the second round of the Algarve Open de Portugal.
Pettersson, who opened in 66 Thursday at Vale do Lobo, was 2-under through his first six holes in Round 2 when tournament officials called play with 80 golfers still on the course. The final cancellation came after an earlier delay, forced primarily from golf balls blowing off the heavily-exposed 11th green.
Six shots off the pace was Alastair Forsyth and Gary Evans, each who had reached 2-under for the tournament through six and one holes, respectively.
At 1-under upon completion of play were another five golfers, including early-finishers Miguel Angel Martin (70) and Greg Owen (71).
The frustrating day was the second in a row, as winds and rain hampered play in the first round as well. No decision has been made as to whether the event will last the entire 72 holes.
