Wittenberg SGA Amateur of the Month

On the strength of his remarkable performance at the Masters last month, Casey Wittenberg has become the first repeat winner of the Southern Golf Association's National Amateur of the Month Award. The 19-year-old Oklahoma State freshman from Memphis, youngest player in the field at Augusta this year, won low amateur honors by posting the lowest 72-hole Masters total by any amateur in 42 years.

Under the glare of playing alongside Tigers Woods during the first two rounds, Wittenberg bested Woods over that span by several strokes. His even-par, 288 total was good for 13th, which earned Wittenberg a repeat invitation to the 2005 Masters.

Wittenberg first won the SGA award last July with his back-to-back victories in the SGA's Southern Amateur and the Porter Cup. He is expected to defend his Southern Am title in July when the 98th renewal of the tournament is contested at the exclusive Honors Course near Chattanooga.
