Woosnam for Change in Ryder Selection

Ian Woosnam has given his backing to a proposed new Ryder Cup selection process.
Woosnam, a candidate for the European captaincy, has come out in favor of a system based on world ranking points instead of going with the present European Tour system. Ten players are now chosen from the tour money list and two wildcards. Woosnam favors a squad based totally on world ranking points.
'I think you could keep a table of points won from the start of qualifying next September through to the following August,' said Woosnam. 'You can't blame guys going to play in America now, and with this system somebody doing well in Japan or wherever would still gain points as well.'
Also expected to widely supported is a system whereby five players would qualify off the world rankings and five off tour money list.
Those in favor of that will argue that loyalty to the European Tour is still being rewarded.
