Hepler Gets Big Break in Hawaii


2007 Turtle Bay ChampionshipThe Big Break VI: Trump National mens champion Denny Hepler of Warsaw, Ind., will compete in the Turtle Bay Championship on the Champions Tour starting Friday live on the Golf Channel. Coverage of the $1.6 million event will begin Friday and Saturday at 6:30 p.m. ET. and Sunday at 7 p.m. ET.
Hepler, 51, captured The Big Break VI championship in December by defeating Jeff Mitchell 1-up in the season finale of the Golf Channel's popular series. His victory earned a sponsor exemption to compete in the 2007 Turtle Bay Championship at the Palmer Course at Turtle Bay Resort; Kahuku, Hawaii.
Also making their Turtle Bay Championship debut is former PGA TOUR players Fred Funk, Chip Beck, David Edwards, Peter Jacobsen, Tim Simpson, Kenny Knox, Jack Renner and Denis Watson.
Joining the field will be Hale Irwin, who is coming off his 45th Champions Tour victory last week at the MasterCard Championship at Hualalai. At 61 years old, he is vying for his seventh Turtle Bay Championship.
Host Mark Rolfing and analyst Frank Nobilo will call all the action, while LPGA Hall-of-Famer Donna Caponi-Byrnes and PGA TOUR veteran Mark Lye will handle on-course reporting. David Marr III will catch up with players on the couch.
The Golf Channel will provide all rounds of 22 Champions Tour events and early round coverage of four other events including two major championships in 2007.
