Use simple checkpoints to solve your pitching woes

You don’t have to suffer from repeated mis-hits and bad shots hole after hole.

You don’t have to endure the disappointment of a bad round, watching until you see your pro on the practice tee.

You can become your own coach and learn to self correct if you simply use easy checkpoints when executing your pitch shots.

A good pitch to the green can save your score, despite a less-than-wonderful long game, and here are some tips to help you out.

First, you do not want either too strong or too weak of a grip.

Check to see that the V’s formed by the thumb and index finger of each hand point between your chin and right shoulder. This check is easy to make if you hold the club in front of you parallel to the ground.

Second, you need to avoid an extreme open or shut clubface.

Stand in your golf posture, swing the club waist high and then stop and check the clubface. The toe should point straight up.

If the toe is slightly down, however, don’t worry. Just avoid a clubface that is dead shut or wide open.

Third, check the path of your clubhead in the backswing.

Avoid swinging too inside or too outside. To be sure, put a club down on the ground parallel to the target line and to the right of your right foot.

Swing waist high and check if your wedge is parallel to the club on the ground. If not, correct the swing to line up with the club on the ground.

These checkpoints are quick and easy to make, but they will make a big difference in your final result.
