Weekly Fix: Reverse path to lose the chicken wing

Welcome back to Weekly Fix. I’m Tim Cooke and we’re breaking down your swings every week on GolfChannel.com in hopes of helping you play your best golf in 2013.

This week, we’re going to take a closer look at Anthony’s golf swing.



Anthony gets the club back in good position and makes an aggressive weight shift through the ball, but he also has an issue thats common to many golfers, and thats the chicken wing.

Well talk more about the chicken wing in our video this week and give Anthony some tips to help him alter his swing path and fix that flaw.

In summary, some of the ideas I would suggest that everyone take away from this analysis would include the following:

• To maximize power and improve consistency, it's imperative on the downswing that your weight is driving forward toward the target.

• Many golfers have heard the term 'chicken wing' but they might not know what it actually means. When your lead elbow moves in and up, folding too quickly after impact, that is the chicken wing, and it's usually caused by a swing path that is too much from out to in.

• If you deal with a chicken wing in your swing, try to feel on the downswing as if your hands stay close to your body and that your trail elbow stays back for as long as possible. That will help you achieve a swing path that's more in to out.
