RSS

Tune in tonight to discover how the 1962 U.S. Open marked the emergence of Jack Nicklaus and the beginning of one of golf’s greatest rivalries; the one between Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. Tonight at 10PM ET watch the premiere airing of 1962 U.S. Open: Jack’s First Major.

Coming into his first U.S. Open as a professional golfer in 1962, Jack Nicklaus had shown glimpses of greatness but had yet to win a tournament as a pro. With Arnold Palmer playing at the peak of his career, few thought it would take an additional 18 playoff holes to decide that year’s U.S. Open. Fewer thought it would be Nicklaus that emerged as a major champion.

Over the course of four days and five rounds, Jack Nicklaus did not succumb to the pressure he faced. He felt that the U.S. Open was his to win, despite Arnold Palmer being the consensus favorite. That Sunday in June of 1962 marked the day Nicklaus became known as golf’s next great.

Tonight at 10PM ET watch 1962 U.S. Open: Jack’s First Major to see the story of Jack Nicklaus’ first professional victory and how his path to 18 majors began. Listen to him and Arnold Palmer, along with many others, describe the 1962 U.S. Open and how golf’s most competitive rivalry began and fueled a great friendship.
