RSS

The 1991 Ryder Cup is the year that changed the Ryder Cup forever.  Team Europe walked away with the Ryder Cup both in 1985 and 1987.  In 1989 the match ended in a draw.  By the time 1991 came around Team U.S.A. was looking to bring the Cup home and on American soil.  Watch the world premiere of War by the Shore: 1991 Ryder Cup on Tuesday at 9PM ET and learn why the Ryder Cup has never been the same since this event.

The importance of the 1991 Ryder Cup was about more than golf for Team U.S.A and the American people. It was about American pride and patriotism.  The 1991 Ryder Cup came at a time when the United States won both the Persian Gulf War and the Cold War.  Fans forgot that golf was a gentleman’s sport and there was a certain etiquette that was expected on the course.   During the 1991 Ryder Cup that was broadcast to over 200 million people in 23 countries you could hear fans booing and cheering “USA” in the crowd.

In War by the Shore: 1991 Ryder Cup hear from some of the original members of Team U.S.A such as Team Captain Dave Stockton, Jack Nicklaus, Mark Calcavecchia, Hale Irwin and more.  Find out what it was like to be on the team and what the win meant for them and the United States.
