2 for 2! Kohles wins 2nd event in 2 pro starts

RSS

Ben Kohles isn't playing baseball, but he's batting 1.000 in his short pro golf career.

The University of Virginia product shot a 9-under 62 at Champions Run in Omaha, Neb., to win the Web.com Tour's Cox Classic by three shots over Dawie van Der Walt for his second professional win in his first two starts.

Kohles entered the final round trailing Russell Henley and newly minted pro Luke Guthrie, who Kohles beat in a playoff to win the Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational in his maiden paid start.

Playing bogey-free golf with nine birdies on Sunday, Kohles posted a 24-under total for the victory. Van der Walt also made nine birdies and an eagle, missing a 3-foot birdie putt at the last to shoot 59.

Kohles not only locked up his second win of a very short pro career but also a 2013 PGA Tour card. The top 25 on the season-end Web.com Tour money list earn PGA Tour status for next season. Kohles is assured of finishing above that threshold. If he wins a third time on the Web.com Tour this season, he will immediately earn PGA Tour playing privileges.

In his first two pro starts over the space of two weeks, Kohles has played eight rounds in a combined 36 under, made just nine bogeys in 144 holes and pocketed $261,000.
